Warwick Events, August 2023
Don’t let your summer end in boredom! There’s tons of entertainment around, and it doesn’t cost a fortune. In fact, most of the Warwick events are completely free!
Art In The Park
Art in the Park is a curated arts festival, taking place from 5-6th August. A small city will spring up over this weekend, covering Jephson Gardens, Mill Gardens and the whole park riverside area. Amid street food vendors and pop-up bars, artists will showcase, sell and demonstrate their work, ranging from paintings and prints to jewellery, ceramics and sculpture.
Visual arts not your thing? What about comedy? Theatre? Dance? Local music? This is an all-in-one celebration of every kind of art, united under this year’s theme: ‘Present’.
It’s a great excuse to drag the kids out of the house for a dose of culture. They won’t feel like they’re wandering around a museum, not with live rock music, Bollywood dancing and engaging workshops. For the littler ones, ArtLAB is running workshops for Harry Potter wand-making, fruit stamping and sensory adventure trays. Check out the brochure for the full list.
This the biggest, most spectacular of the Warwick events. It might be child-friendly, but it’s not child-centric, with a huge amount of adult activities to enjoy. You might get involved in arts and crafts, try out improvised comedy, learn African drumming or join the Vital Moves Flash Mob class. Or you might just wander round the parks enjoying the sight of good art, the sound of new music and the smell of delectable food.
Classic Car And Bike Show
So that’s Art in the Park, and it can be a little overwhelming! The next of our Warwick events is a little calmer and quieter.
The Classic Car And Bike Show takes place in Warwick’s Market Square, on 13th August. This event is a delight for car enthusiasts, commonly attracting over one hundred retro cars and bikes. It’s free, friendly, and anyone can show up with their classic car. You don’t even have to pre-book!
This display takes place right in the heart of Warwick, perfect for taking a turn about the town. It’s barely a five-minute walk from the Warwick Arms, so do drop in for drinks on our new summer terrace. If you’re feeling peckish, come by for coffee and cake to restore your energy levels!
60 Hour Shakespeare
Where would we be without a bit of Shakespeare?
60 Hour Shakespeare is setting up in Jephson Gardens, from 6pm-8pm on 28th August. They’ve gathered together to perform a little-known story – ‘Margaret: The Wars of the Roses’.
We think of Shakespeare as the crème de la crème of classical acting, but the original performances might have been a bit more rough and ready. In his time, companies often had one rehearsal, performing over 40 plays in a single year. These 60 Hour Shakespeareans get down to business for one weekend and then it’s curtain up for a production full of energy and dynamism.
This is the only one of these Warwick events that is ticketed, but all proceeds go to charity. Book in for a night of betrayal, armies and more battles than in any other Shakespeare play!
More Warwick Events
These are just three of the local Warwick events, a taster of what’s to come this August.
On top of that, we’re hosting regular crafts sessions and dancing lessons, which you can check out on the Warwick Arms website! Alternatively, keep up to date via our Facebook and Instagram.
