Superb Days Out At The Warwick Races

The drumming of hooves, the rush of adrenaline and the chance to show off the latest racing styles… you’re in luck; the Warwick races provide all these as part of their fantastic days out and they’re only a 10-minute walk from our cosy hotel and bar!

The Appeal Of The Races

Britain is packed with horse racing enthusiasts, right up to the King himself! The royal family is renowned for being avid followers of the sport, but you don’t have to be a dedicated fan to enjoy a day at the Warwick races.

A day at the Warwick Racecourse brings the intense excitement of any sporting event as you watch horses and jockeys battle it out for first place. With the opportunity to place a bet on your favourite horse, there’s an added adrenaline rush as you see them dash past. Even if you’re not invested in a specific horse, you can enjoy the spectacle of hundreds of supporters dressed up to the nines, showing off tweeds and fantastic hats. You don’t need to dress like a Queen, but the Warwick races are the perfect opportunity to demonstrate your unique style.

You can also bring the kids – Warwick even hosts a race day mixed in with a children’s carnival! Friends, family and work colleagues all come together to socialise at the races, while the opportunity to get up close and personal with the horses themselves makes it a great experience for animal lovers. It’s the combination of these attractions that make horse racing the biggest spectator sport in the UK!

Through The Ages

Not only is it the biggest spectator sport, but it’s also the oldest of all sports! Ancient Egyptians, Persians, Greeks, Syrians and Chinese people have all cultivated horse racing, with Roman soldiers being the first to bring it to British shores around 200 AD. Its appeal has only grown throughout the ages, popular amongst kings and queens and culminating in Charles II, who founded Newmarket as the home of British horse racing.

You would never know from looking, but Warwick races have been around since the late 17th century! A wildfire ripped through the town in 1694, prompting townspeople to organise horse racing to raise the money to rebuild. Eventually, the inaugural race was held in 1707 and the first stand was built in 1808, paving the way for generations of enthralled spectators, holding their breath as the steeds fly around the course. Since then, the racecourse has seen famous races and famous names, including Red Rum, thought to be the greatest horse ever to compete in the Grand National!

2023 At The Warwick Races

The racecourse has announced its programme for 2023, following centuries of great races with another truly exciting year! You can attend the Warwick races to enjoy Members’ Race Day, charity races, ladies’ nights and kids’ carnival days. Not sure if racing’s for you? The Fabulous Fiver Friday lets you experience all the joys of the sport for just £5, the perfect opportunity to decide if you like it or not.

However, there is one significant race day in every enthusiast’s calendar. 2023 marks 50 years of the Classic Chase, begun in 1973 and a true test of stamina as well as speed. To commemorate the occasion, there’ll be memorabilia, souvenirs and the chance to meet racing greats! If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the world of horse racing, you couldn’t have a better day out.
